Hardy Academy offers students alternatives

Hardy Learning Center and the Hardy Academy programs combine cuttingedge braintraining interventions with stateoftheart education programs to create a stimulating environment for success and change. Hardy specializes in creating successful learning experiences for students who struggle to learn and pay attention in traditional classrooms.

"The Hardy Academy offers personal instruction in a caring environment. Having worked with these students firsthand, I have seen how this personalized instruction enables them to feel successful, sometimes for the first time. With renewed confidence in themselves, learning becomes exciting again, and they stay on the path to academic independence," said teacher Bonnie Walters.

The Hardy Academy day school for grades two to 12 offers an alternative to traditional school, providing a mix of accredited courses, brain training to enhance learning and attention, handson activities and excursions into the community to develop a love of learning for students who have previously been struggling in school.

Interviews for fall enrollment are being scheduled now.

The Hardy Academy summer programs are two and three weeks: June 18 through July 6, July 9 through 27, and July 30 through Aug. 10.

Designed as a fun and intensive academic program to remediate weaknesses in reading, math, writing and spelling, the summer programs add brain training to improve attention and learning, as well as art and science, making the 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. day full of success and fun.

Two, three and fourday programs meet the needs of students in grades K to eight. High school students can make up a class or get ahead on a class this summer using an accredited course.

Hardy summer writing workshops will feature local author Bridget Crocker. Crocker's work has been featured in Lonely Planet guidebooks and national magazines, including Outside, National Geographic Adventure, Paddler, Trail Runner and others.

The two writing workshop sessions are June 19 through July 6 and July 9 through July 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The workshops will focus on the creative process and are open to students of all ages and abilities.

A brushup for backtoschool session on July 30 through Aug. 10 gives students a skills review designed to jump-start the academic year. Two, three and fourday options from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. are designed around students' academic needs.

Ongoing braintraining sessions with Interactive Metronome, neurofeedback, Belgau and more can be scheduled throughout the summer to make this fall a "new start."

"Everything is the opposite of what it was before. Now I can remember and concentrate. I don't zoom off in my head like I used to. I can do the things I'm supposed to do, and I'm not mad as much," said a Hardy student.
