Church to host Juneteenth celebration

The Bethel AME Church of Oxnard and the Black American Political Association of California, Ventura County Chapter, present the 17th annual Juneteenth, "A Celebration of Freedom," from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., June 16 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center Park, 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard.

The event is free and will have food, family fun for all age groups, guest speakers, dance contest, hula hoop contest, live entertainment, arts and crafts sales, clowns, morning bikeathon and a Jolly Jump.

A free community health fair will provide health education and fitness screening.

Juneteenth commemorates the freeing of the slaves following the Civil War.
