Believes district is placing blame How can the Pleasant Valley School Board blame the parents for the complete upheaval they have put the city of Camarillo through for the past six months? The majority of the parents understood that changes needed to happen with the school facilities. They understood that teacher salaries needed to be adjusted. The fact that the PVSD has made poor financial decisions in the past and hundreds of thousands of K-8 finances have been spent on unification doesn't change the facts. The PVSD has neglected to focus on academic excellence for students here today. The lack of long-term planning has tarnished the reputation of this school district. The lack of decision making, fact finding and prior research has solidified that view. How many parents aren't familiar with the success of the Las Virgenes or Conejo school districts? How many families has Camarillo lost to these areas? How many more to follow? Let's not even add into the equation the hundreds of thousands of dollars heading up the grade to Oaks Christian, La Reina and the like. It will take a year or two to see the financial impact on the city of Camarillo. All the citizens of this city will pay a price. After the closure of schools and elimination of successful 30year programs to the community, some school board members are trying to turn the tables and blame the parents and teachers of Los Senderos for their desire to maintain their "open" school program with the start up of CAPE charter school process. A board member was quoted, "All I ask the parents and teachers of Los Senderos is take a look and understand the chain of events you are setting in place." You, the Pleasant Valley School District and Board members, with the changes you have made, have already set the "chain of events" in motion. Dianne Glick Camarillo |
