Term limits should be shortened The Camarillo Acorn reported on May 11 that the Ventura County Supervisors voted 4-0 for a "term limits" ballot measure to appear in 2008. Oh, really? If it passes they will "only" be able to serve for three consecutive four-year terms (12 years). Then they must stay out for four years before they will be able to run again for another possible 12 years in office. Current supervisors would still be able to "serve" another 12 years before having to drop out for four years, then run again for another possible 12 years in office. Our county supervisors must think that Ventura County voters are as stupid as those in the city of Los Angeles. The "term limits" ballot measure passed by Ventura County Supervisors should be soundly defeated. Of course, if it is defeated then the supervisors will say: "See, the voters of Ventura County do not want term limits." But that would not necessarily be the case. We do need term limits for our county supervisors. However, it should be for two terms (eight years) and then they are out for good. No time out and then run again for the same office. Robert S. Kennedy Jr. Camarillo |
