Health care for kids opens in Oxnard

Uninsured children and teens can now receive healthcare in Oxnard at the Health Care for Kids Center at 2653 Saviers Road, Ste. A, Oxnard.

The Health Care for Kids program started in Santa Paula in October 2005. A second center opened in Ventura in March 2006 and Simi Valley Health Care for Kids opened last October.

The plan increases enrollment in existing state insurance programs such as the nocost Medi-Cal and low-cost Healthy Families for uninsured children who qualify, officials said.

Estimates for Ventura County indicate that there are 32,000 children in Ventura who are uninsured, about 27,000 of whom are potentially eligible for MediCal or Healthy Families. Children who don't qualify will be referred for enrollment in low-cost private insurance programs.
