Keep open program alive

I am writing in support of the charter to preserve and enhance the wonderful, 30year open education program. It's a program that proved to be such a cornerstone for my friends when they moved to Camarillo as newlyweds more than 10 years ago. Their dreams were to raise children in a community with a progressive stance on education.

Imagine the kind of trust you need to have in a city to move 60 miles away from family, friends and a network of help that costs you nothing. That's some commitment. That's some community. My friends thought that community was Camarillo.

The Pleasant Valley School Board is legally required to approve a legitimate charter application and this application exceeds all requirements.

Growing support is a testament to the commitment of the parents involved in the charter campaign. We are committed to the charter's approval. Nothing less will do.

Approve the charter. Keep families involved and hopefully, the PVSD will not find itself as ineffective as the Pasadena Unified School District has because 60 percent of children in the district are in private schools. Why?

The district refused to address the concerns and accommodate the needs of the families in the community. Sherry Davis Johnson Altadena
