Campaign raises $32,000 for memorial Due to the generosity of Ventura County citizens, more than $32,000 was raised during the "Fill the Helmet" weekend last month. The donations will help build a memorial dedicated to local fallen firefighters at the Ventura County Government Center. The campaign has raised about $100,000, still far from the $250,000 needed to complete the memorial. Other fundraising events scheduled include a golf tournament Fri., May 11 at the Olivas Park Golf Course and the Gator Run/Walk Sun., May 27 hosted by the Rotary Club of Simi Sunset and featuring 5K and 10K events. Cajun and Creole food, a Mardi Gras parade, kids' activities, dance lessons and Cajun and zydeco music will be featured. All contributions to the memorial fund are tax deductible, and donations of $500 or more receive permanent recognition at the site. For more information, visit www.ffmemorial.org. |
