Forum allows students to quiz artists

On Sat., April 28 local high school art students will attend a special arts panel and critique at Studio Channel Islands Art Center, a nonprofit art center on the campus of California State University at Channel Islands.

The forum will provide an opportunity for 45 students to hear firsthand accounts by working artists about careers and higher education in the visual arts while gaining feedback on their own artwork.

Four professional artists will discuss their backgrounds, education and careers, and then will give feedback on several works of art by the high school students. The students' work will be viewed in context with the current exhibition at Studio Channel Islands, the annual CSUCI Student Exhibition, featuring artwork by university art students.

Panelists will include Jack Reilly, chair of the art department at CSUCI; Bob Moskowitz, Ventura College Art Department chair; an artist who specializes in art production for rock concerts, TV and other media; and an additional college-level arts educator.

After the panel, students will be able to meet the artists, ask questions and receive individual critiques.

Studio Channel Islands Art Center is on the campus of CSUCI in Building 18 on Ventura Street, Camarillo. Gallery Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 3 p.m. or by appointment.
