Woman swindled out of cash, jewels

Police are searching for a Hispanic couple in their 30s with two young children, who reportedly scammed their way into the home of an elderly Camarillo woman on April 12 and stole $1,300 in cash and jewelry. The woman was not hurt in the robbery.

According to police, the couple, along with their two young children, around 5 and 9 years old, knocked on the woman's front door and spoke to the woman, pretending to know her and asking about a recent appointment.

Police said that since the couple appeared well-groomed and seemed to already know personal information about her, the woman invited them into her home.

Once inside the house, the youngest child asked to use the bathroom. While the child and adult suspect stayed in the restroom for 20 minutes, the elderly woman became suspicious as the female suspect stayed behind asking personal questions about the victim's name and birth date.

A few minutes after the man came out with the child, he announced the family needed to leave. They left in a newer black compact with "Rydell" paper plates. The elderly woman later found that both cash and jewelry were taken from her bedroom.

Police remind citizens not to let any stranger into their homes. Investigators say seniors are especially vulnerable to these types of scams.
