County science fair explores the unknown

"Exploring the Unknown" is the theme of the 53rd annual Ventura County Science Fair, which will run Tues. through Thurs., April 17 to 19 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura.

More than 900 students countywide in grades 6 through 12 have entered science projects that will be available for public viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. Wed., April 18.

Science Fair categories are animal behavioral and social sciences, human behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, engineering, human biology, microbiology, physics, zoology, and mathematics, computer science and electronics.

Local professionals in the sciences will judge the projects on Wed., April 18. The top finishers will be honored at an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., April 19 at Anacapa Hall on the fairgrounds.

Students whose projects place first or second in their categories will qualify to compete in the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles on May 21 and 22.

The 2007 Ventura County Science Fair is sponsored by the Ventura County Office of Education, along with HAAS Automation, Amgen and various sciencerelated organizations.
