Acorn turns one, boosts circulation

The Camarillo Acorn celebrates its first anniversary Sat., April 7 and announces an increase in circulation to include free home delivery to residents of the Village at the Park housing development.

With an increase of 1,000 copies, the weekly community newspaper now boasts a total circulation of 27,250 delivered to homes and businesses throughout Camarillo every Friday- the largest single circulation of any newspaper in the city.

"We are pleased that residents have accepted the Camarillo Acorn as their hometown newspaper," Publisher Jim Rule said. "Now that we are receiving more requests for home delivery we feel the time is right to increase the press run."

The fifth newspaper in the 33-year-old Acorn newspaper group, the Camarillo Acorn opened its local office at 1203 Flynn Road in January.

With offices in Agoura Hills and Thousand Oaks, the Camarillo office is the family owned newspaper group's third location.

"The past year has been extremely exciting in terms of our growth and the amazing reception we've received from Camarillo's residents," Editor Daniel Wolowicz said. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with our readers and will continue to work hard to provide the type of quality hometown coverage this community deserves."

Since their purchase of The Acorn newspaper in 1996, publishers Jim and Lisa Rule have expanded the local newspaper chain from the original Acorn- established in 1974 as a coupon shopper in Agoura Hills- to include the Thousands Oaks Acorn, the Moorpark Acorn, the Simi Valley Acorn and the Camarillo Acorn.

The Acorn newspaper group has a total circulation of more than 137,000 and serves readers in both Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
