Grand opening to be a day of activities

The dedication ceremony for the new Camarillo Library will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sat., March 31, and the library will open with a ribbon cutting at about 11 a.m. The library is at 4101 Las Posas Road.

The American Association of University Women will enact Women in History, including Beatrix Potter, Sally Ride, Queen Hatshepsut of Egypt, Queen Elizabeth I, Susan B. Anthony and Biddy Mason. Shawn McMaster will perform close-up magic from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Children's authors visiting the children's room from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be Alexis O'Neill, Joan Brandsfield Graham, Greg Trine, Kristine O'Connell, Barbara Bietz, Carol Heyer, Jody Fickes Shapiro and June Sobel. Storytellers from the community will read to children in the pirate ship.

A Drawshop Cartoon and Anime Workshop, presented by Max and Ruben's California Caricatures for teens ages 12 to 18, will take place in the young adult area from 2 to 3 p.m.

Stan Daily will be featured with his book "Camarillo and Other Remembrances" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other adult authors will sign books in the secondfloor adult areas, including Michael Gorn, "NASA: A Complete History," from 1 to 2 p.m. and Cherie Brant, author of books about Ventura history, from 2 to 3 p.m.

The grand opening celebration will continue on Sunday. The library will open at 10 a.m. and more AAUW Women in History will visit, including Sylvia Earle, Amelia Earhart, Adm. Grace Hopper and Sacagawea. A storytelling festival with staff from the Ventura County Libraries will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., and the Camarillo Library Book Club will meet from 2 to 3 p.m. in the conference room.
