University art studio to open wing in Oxnard

Studio Channel Islands will open an annex, SCIART West, at 519 S. C St., Oxnard. Hours will be Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. or by appointment. The inaugural exhibition, "Salute to Oxnard," and the opening reception will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sat., April 14.

Pat Richards and Claudia Pardo-McFadyen are co-curators of the exhibition, a show of work by Oxnard area artists including Margy Gates, Gerri JohnsonMcMillin, Hilda Kilpatrick, Tom Kimbrell, Dan LaVigne, Tom McMillin and Julia Pinkham.

Studio Channel Islands Art Center is a nonprofit organization with more than 20 studios, art exhibitions of local and national artists in four galleries, Meet the Artist programs, docent tours, symposiums and workshops for all ages.

SCIART West will offer similar community benefits, including an art exhibition program in the front gallery and five working artist studios.

SCIART West has been made possible in part by The Downtown Center for the Arts, a nonprofit organization involved in the redevelopment of downtown Oxnard.
