Church starts women's book club Camarillo United Methodist Church will host a new book club for women from 7 to 8 p.m. in April in Howald Parlor at the church, 291 Anacapa Drive, Camarillo. The discussion group will review "In Sweet Company: Conversations with Extraordinary Women about Living a Spiritual Life," by Margaret Wolff, on April 2, 9 and 16. The evenings are open to all women free of charge. A different person will be discussed each session: Sister Helen Prejean, author of "Dead Man Walking," on April 2; Grandmother Twylah Nitsch, a Seneca elder and founder of the Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge, on April 9; and Miriam Polster, pioneer of Gestalt psychotherapy, on April 16. Class leader is Meenal Kelkar, yoga therapy practitioner. She teaches meditation classes at the Church and the Camarillo Health Care District. "In Sweet Company" contains conversations with 14 women of different ethnic, spiritual and professional backgrounds, from ages 31 to 91. The women tell the story of their road to spiritual and emotional inner development. Attendees are asked to read the first chapter of "In Sweet Company" before coming to the first meeting. The book may be purchased through Amazon.com or at Borders. To RSVP, call the church office at (805) 482-4312 or visit www.cam-umc.org. |
