Teens, adults portray brave women for school fundraiser

Courageous women and girls will be portrayed during a fundraiser from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thurs., March 22 at Texas Cattle Co., 710 Arneill Road, Camarillo.

Students and adults will go from table to table in character, telling about their lives. Women represented include Molly Brown, a Titanic survivor; Dolley Madison, first lady; Sybil Luddington, known as the female Paul Revere; Rachel Carson, author of "Silent Spring"; and Susan La Flesche, first Native American doctor.

Teens portrayed include a lighthouse keeper who saved lives, a young girl who contributed to girls being able to play in little league, the youngest suffragette and Revolutionary War messengers.

The student actresses will be from Los Senderos, St. Mary Magdalen and Monte Vista schools. Adult performers are American Association of University Women and community members. Funds raised from the sale of food will go to the Women and History Program in local schools and to Tech Trek scholarships for seventh-grade girls.
