Wants district to do its homework Camarillo parents and residents are willing to usher in a new era of responsible educational spending. We are willing to look at reasonable options informed by fact and designed with objectivity. What we will not abide and will not silently sit back and accept is the complete lack of transparency in the current school review process, the contradictions in the "rationales" and "criteria" for the scenarios presented, and the obvious and predetermined bias against certain schools, namely Los Senderos Open School. At the 7/11 committee meeting on Jan. 30, Dr. Moffett said that the closure of schools is "a facilities issue." When you consider the scenarios presented, it is obvious that "facility" viability is not the main focus. If it were, Los Senderos Open School, a school with the third highest facilities rating according to district studies, would never be considered for outright closure, but it is in several scenarios. Meanwhile, other schools with horrible facilities ratings remain untouched- - immune to consideration for closure. What is happening? School closure is a must, but do we eliminate successful schools that attract families who would otherwise choose private school. Do we eliminate the alternatives in education that differentiate us from other areas of the county? PVSD must consider the "best practices" in the schools and consolidate them under fewer roofs. Keep the succeeding programs and pull more children into thriving, healthy environments. Good management doesn't take place at the chopping block. PVSD is taking a twodimensional view of a multidimensional issue. Follow the thread of subjective decisions to find the tangle of contradicting rationales given for the scenarios. Please put this process under the microscope and ask hardhitting questions. Vigilant oversight is the only thing that can encourage honesty and transparency in this process.
