Special Ed programs offered
Events include fair for students entering adulthood

The Ventura County Special Education Local Plan Area will offer a variety of programs in March.

+A public hearing to review the proposed annual service and budget plans for special education will be at 5:15 p.m. Mon., March 5 at 777 Aileen St., Camarillo.

The service plan will describe the types and locations of services provided in the area, which includes all school districts and the county office of education in Ventura County and the Las Virgenes Unified School District in Los Angeles County.

+"You Would Be Amazed If You Had My Eyes," part of the Autism Resources and Information Sharing series, will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tues., March 6 upstairs at the Ventura Unified Educational Service Center, 255 W. Stanley Ave., Ventura.

A teenager diagnosed with autism will discuss his experiences and answer questions.

The presentation will be in English. Registration is free, but RSVP is requested.

+The annual Transition to Life Fair will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., March 7 at Oxnard Union High School District, 220 S. "K" St., Oxnard.

The fair will help families, professionals and special education students with the transition process as part of the Independent Education Plan.

It will also give them the opportunity to meet with the agency personnel who will work with them to plan and transition from student to adult life.

Registration is free, but RSVP is requested.

+The 15th annual Norman and Ellen Linder Carpe Diem Conference will be from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Thurs., March 8 at Marriott Residence Inn, River Ridge, Oxnard.

The conference is for people who work with and care about students with emotional disturbances. Jerry Doyle will give the keynote presentation, "It Takes a Village."

The cost is $60 for professionals and $25 for parents and college students. Lunch is included.
