Believes district is mismanaged The recent school closures have prompted me to write, as I have never been so upset by the handling of our school district. In the same breath that our school board wants to close down thriving neighborhood schools, they authorize expenditures for another $100,000 to continue researching unification. Isn't it about time to stop researching and see if this is indeed what the Camarillo community wants? Most of the parents feeling the mismanagement of our school board with the current school closures are not so sure our school board is even capable of running a K-12 when they have bungled so much with the ever present K-8, i.e., building new schools while closing down an established school, University Prep and its lease and enrollment, etc. Ken Moffet continues to cite all the new programs we will have by closing down all these schools, but wouldn't the now $400,000 that the district has spent over the last eight years have put more programs in our schools? I am also perplexed, as I am being told that our finances need to be strengthened by closing down schools as the district doesn't have enough to pay our teachers a decent salary and benefits, but on the other hand I am told our district is financially healthy enough to support a K-12 program. It is tragic that our children are the ones who will suffer at the lack of attention that our K8 has received by our board. I feel this is the side effect of a single-agenda school board. I also feel having a temporary superintendent with no ties to the community make such drastic decisions about our children is wrong. My child is more than just a dollar sign! Dawn Soto Camarillo |
