Scientist, author mark 60 years of marriage
Temple Ner Ami hosts anniversary

Ed and Lillian Hawthorne
On Feb. 9, Ed and Lillian Hawthorne shared in the celebration of their 60 years of marriage at Temple Ner Ami in Camarillo.

Ed worked in the space industry and retired as Hughes aircraft's chief scientist in the space program.

Lillian was an English teacher for 20 years, and served as assistant dean at the USC School of Social Work for 20 years.

She wrote her first book, "Finishing Touches," in 1998. Two more followed: "Sisters and Brothers: All These Years," and "Husbands and Wives: All These Years," published in 2005.

They are longtime members of Temple Ner Ami. Lillian sat on the first board of directors, and both she and Ed chaired the Yom Hashoah programs for several years. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
