Letters supporting Los Senderos

Our family began a wonderful educational experience with Bedford Open School when our daughter, now 13, entered kindergarten nine years ago. We were attracted to this campus by the open school philosophy and the opportunity for our children to be active participants in their education, which we felt the other public schools in Camarillo did not offer.

Attending Bedford provided our family the type of quality education our children could receive from a private school, along with the many benefits of a public school. We have continued to enjoy our association with this school and have been involved, committed members of our school family, even through its transition to becoming Los Senderos Open School.

Currently, our two sons, ages 9 and 7, attend the second and fourth grades at Los Senderos, and we look forward to a continuing relationship for many years to come, as we also have a baby boy who we hope will attend Los Senderos.

Being a part of the Los Senderos Open School family has been an important and influential part of our family life. We take pride in the fact that our children are privileged to attend an elementary school with such outstanding attributes. The open school philosophy, along with first-rate teachers and staff, has nurtured, supported and embraced the individual learning styles of each of our three children.

We view the parent participation requirement of two hours per week as a blessing, not a burden, and we have enjoyed being able to actively participate in the education of our children and the other students.

Our family feels fortunate to live in the Pleasant Valley School District, where a variety of educational choices are offered. We strongly feel that the alternative schools in Camarillo make this city a unique and superior community to raise a family and provide our children with an excellent public education.

We urge you to consider the wonderful diversity Los Senderos Open School brings to our community, as the programs and educational opportunities offered at Los Senderos are not offered at the other elementary campuses in this district. Ernie and Leslie Pillado Camarillo
