Point production increases during Week 5 of CYBA season Week 5 of the Camarillo Youth Basketball Association season is in the books. Here's a look back at some of last Saturday's action: In Boys 5, the Yellowjackets defeated the Hoosiers 41-21. Yellowjacket Wade Loft had a game-high 12 points while James Bain and Manual Ramirez each added six points. Hoosier Jacob Totten played a great defensive game and had three points on offense. Hoosiers Daniel Becker and Nicholas Fassl each contributed six points. Moving on to the Boys 6 division, the Yellowjackets edged the Bruins 26-24. It was the Yellowjackets' fourth straight win. The Bruins led through the first four periods, but the game was decided in the fifth period when the Yellowjackets launched a successful come-from-behind charge. Sean Smith scored a game-high 10 points, including a 3-pointer in the final period. The game was clinched for the Yellowjackets when Nico Lopez fought off four defenders to sink the game-winning basket at the buzzer. In Boys 7, the Fighting Irish nipped the Longhorns 45-43. Jordan Hughes scored 14 points, with Jordan Safty putting up 15. Conner Soudani and Arvin Sehati led the Longhorn defense. The Yellowjackets took down the Cardinals 33-30. Trailing by 14 points, the Cardinals mounted a huge comeback to tie the game at the end of regulation. Cardinal Andrew Araiza led the team with eight points and five blocked shots, while Jacob Lorimer added six points and 12 rebounds. Cardinals Luke Hoffmann and Jack McGuire played solid defense. Yellowjacket players Dez Vasquez, T.J. Fairchild and Emanuel Shirley played well, too. JeanLuc Chamaa hit a trio of 3pointers to help get the win. Over in Boys 8, the Trojans beat the Irish 39-27. The Trojans were led in scoring by Taylor White and Ted Lee, who put up 12 and eight points, respectively. Billy Pryor had eight steals to lead the Trojan defense. Jordan Dye, Evan Van Blargen and Patrick Ramirez controlled the paint and really attacked the boards. Jake Bramwell and Michael Martinez did a fine job on both ends of the court, while Ryan Burr made the team's first 3-pointer of the season. Switching gears to Senior Girls, the Bruins got past the Lady Vols in overtime, 20-18. The Bruins were behind through the first three periods but launched a big offensive attack in the fourth to put the Vols down by one. The final period was intense, with Bruin Macy Morgan scoring the only point of the period on a free throw. Bruin Darian Roy had a team-high six points. Lady Vols Rachel Schienbein and Madison O'Donnell each scored six points, while Erin Peterson added five. In other action, the Buckeyes upended the Tar Heels 35-27. Buckeye Tristan RicheyHerrera contributed 15 points and was strong throughout the game with her shooting. Ashlee Gallard was not far behind as she added 14 points to the Buckeye total. Buckeyes Brittany Nielsen and Amy Anderson played solid defense. For the Tar Heels, Samantha McCarthy scored 12 points while Kimberly Flores had nine points. Alison Stymacher added six points. Jenna White was strong on defense. Lastly, the Trojans beat the Tigers 22-19. Trojan Monica Ramos had a solid game with 12 points. Susana Rodriguez was strong on defense while Claudia Rodriguez contributed six points to the Trojan win. Tiger Jenna Melford had 10 points with Samantha Meyer contributing six. Trojans Alexis Newberry and Rae Ann Cantrell both played well on defense. |
