Art association opens scholarship competition Buenaventura Art Association announced their inaugural scholarship competition titled "The Buenaventura Art Association Emerging Artist Cup." The competition will run from March 7 through March 18. There will be an opening reception/ awards ceremony from 5 to 8 p.m. on Fri., March 9 at the Harbor Village Gallery, 1591 Spinnaker Drive, Ste. 117C, Ventura. Students are requested to bring their work to the gallery from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sun., March 4, or from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mon., March 5 or Tues., March 6. Entry forms are available at the Buenaventura Gallery, the Harbor Village Gallery or at www.HarborVillageGallery.com. The competition is open to students attending college or university in Ventura County. First place is a $1,000 scholarship, second place is a $500 scholarship, third place is a $250 gift card from Dick Blick Art Supplies, and two honorable mentions will receive a $125 gift card from Dick Blick. All winners will also receive a free one-year membership in the Buenaventura Art Association. The juror for the competition is Tony Askew, professor of art at Westmont College and curator for the Reynolds Gallery.
