Explorer Scouts earn acclaim for work

Law enforcement agencies throughout Ventura County will honor Law Enforcement Explorers with Explorer of the Year awards at 6:30 p.m. Fri., Feb. 9 at Camarillo City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive.

The agencies involved include the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and the Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Simi Valley and Oxnard police departments.

Cmdr. Dennis Carpenter, chief of police of the Thousand Oaks Police Department, will be the guest speaker at the event.

For the awards, Explorers were selected for exhibiting outstanding commitment to their Explorer Post and performing duties in an exemplary manner.

Law Enforcement Explorers, affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, are men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 who volunteer their time with local law enforcement agencies to serve their communities. They assist in many ways, such as directing traffic for civic events at Conejo Valley Days in Thousand Oaks and the Strawberry Festival in Oxnard.
