Wants Oxnard to reconsider appeal

My letter is in response to Oxnard Union's decision to appeal the decision made by the Ventura County Committee on School District Organization to let Pleasant Valley School District unify into a K12 district. It was a decision that took years to come to after extremely careful consideration and after spending $129,000 of money that could have gone to the schools instead.

I am also addressing Mr. Denis O'Leary of the League of United Latin American Citizens who may be joining Oxnard Union's appeal.

I have been reading a bit about the organization. I see that LULAC is keen on constitutional rights and democracy. O'Leary said, "We see it as a constitutional rights issue." I see it as a democratic one. Let the people vote. The appeals and delays are not in the best interest of the children. The appeals and delays cost the already strapped education system hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Let our (yours and mine) children keep this money for books and programs in our schools. What does it really matter who governs the schools?

As these organizations fight for their "constitutional rights," I feel that mine are being taken away. We, too, have the "right" to have our own K-12 district.

Please reconsider your appeal and let the people vote. Anne Carter Camarillo
