Wants Oxnard to reconsider appeal Well over a decade ago, Ross Perot predicted it all. He warned of NAFTA and other such socalled "free trade" treaties causing a "giant sucking sound" of manufacturing jobs flowing out of the U.S. and to Mexico and Canada. Technicolor's latest exit move to "reduce costs" (and make more profits) proves that outsourcing for cheaper labor, less environmental controls, etc. just continues on and on. When will the average American worshiping before the altar of consumerism realize that the short range benefits of imports at Wal-Mart prices won't develop good paying jobs for the future? What kind of jobs will our grandchildren be scrambling for? The corporation executives and families won't have to worry about lifestyle disruptions as they can stay in the comfort and security of Camarillo with the corporate headquarters while the lower paid jobs go south. It is akin to politicians not sending their children to Iraq while those of the lower echelon (the common folk) bear the brunt of the war. John F. Kerkhoff Somis |
