Art center opens four exhibits under one roof

Studio Channel Islands Art Center will present four exhibitions running concurrently from Sat., Jan. 20 through March 17.

The artists' reception will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 20 at the studio on the campus of California State University at Channel Islands, Building 18, Ventura Street, Camarillo.

In the Evans Gallery, "on dead highways" is a display of mixed media paintings by Geoff Mitchell. Mitchell received his master's of fine arts degree from Minneapolis College of Arts and Design and lives in Los Angeles.

Beverly Decker's paintings, themed "Commuter Peace, Interconnectedness," will be exhibited in the O'Keeffe Gallery. These acrylic paintings were inspired by digital photographs the artist took while commuting and thinking about how the need for oil has caused war, suffering, pollution and global warming. She teaches at CSUCI.

In the Gerd Koch Gallery Noble Powell III presents his portraits of mothers with their special needs children.

The Hallway Gallery will showcase paintings by J.D. Thomas in an exhibit titled "On the Gold Coast," panoramic paintings of Ventura County coastal waters and the Channel Islands.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 3 p.m., or by appointment.
