Camarillo Youth Basketball season off and running

The Camarillo Youth Basketball Association opened its season last Saturday with games taking place at three middle schools, Freedom Park and the Camarillo Boys & Girls Club.

Here are a few highlights from the first week of play:

In the Boys 5 Division, the Wildcats beat the Hoosiers 35-29. Nick Fassel was a standout for the Hoosiers with 14 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals. Andrew Peralta added seven points and Kyle Palmer chipped in six. Stevie Monzon and Liam Cochran both gave fine efforts on defense.

Also in Boys 5, the Trojans upended the Bruins 37-28.

The Trojans opened the season with a wellbalanced offensive attack. Teamwork and tough defense was the key, with every player getting at least one steal for a team total of 25. Strong play in the paint, both offensively and defensively, added up to a team total of 32 rebounds.

In Boys 7 action, the Longhorns got past the Wildcats 36-24. The game was action packed with Longhorn Jordan Hughes scoring 10 points and his teammate, Arvin Schati, dominating on defense.
