Three churches on one campus in Camarillo

The campus of the Camarillo United Methodist Church is the site for three churches.

The site at 291 Anacapa Drive in Camarillo Heights contains the 53-year-old Camarillo United Methodist Church, plus the Korean United Methodist Church and the Japanese American Christian Chapel.

In addition, the site also houses the 200-student Camarillo UMC Child Development Center.

The campus has seen a number of changes over the years, including the building of a social hall and sanctuary, conversion of a parsonage to a mission house, and the upgrading of numerous buildings.

The Camarillo United Methodist Church has two services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. and a Sunday School on Sunday mornings and a number of activities during the week. The Rev. Jim Decker-Mahin is the senior pastor for a congregation of about 920.

The Korean United Methodist Church, which has met on the campus since 1981, uses the site every Sunday for an English service in the multipurpose room at 10 a.m. and a Korean service at noon in the sanctuary.

The Korean UMC also meet in Brooks Hall every Sunday for a meal and fellowship. The congregation of 160 is led by the Rev. Sangman Shin.

The Japanese American Christian Chapel has been using the Mission House at the site for its 55member congregation for six years. At 11 a.m. on Sundays, the Rev. John Katagi preaches in English and the Rev. Shozo Yamamoto preaches in Japanese. The Mission House was originally the Methodist Church parsonage.

The Camarillo United Methodist Church was organized in 1953 when the property was purchased.

The church recently purchased and installed a new Rodgers threemanual Masterpiece Signature Digital Console, which expands the capacity of the original 22-rank Schantz pipe organ.
