Scholar to speak on ancient scrolls
      A leading expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls will give a free lecture at 4 p.m. Tues., Nov. 6 at Samuelson Chapel on the campus of California Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road in Thousand Oaks. James VanderKam will speak about the Dead Sea Scrolls and early Christianity.

Book club welcomes all faiths
      An interfaith book group for women will resume meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. Mon, Nov. 12 in Howald Parlor, Camarillo United Methodist Church, 291 Anacapa Drive. There is no charge to attend. The group will discuss the book "My Grandfather's Blessings: Stories of Strength, Refuge, and Belonging" by Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen for three consecutive Mondays.

Jewish connection to Holy Land explored
      A new class, "The Land and the Spirit," will explore the spiritual connection of the Jewish people to the Holy Land and is offered at the Chabad Jewish Center, 5040 Telegraph Road, across from Ventura College in Ventura. The class runs for six consecutive Wednesdays, 7 to 8:30 p.m., starting Oct. 31.
