School district wants public's opinion
      While the Pleasant Valley School District is receiving applications for the interim superintendent, the board of trustees has asked the community to give them input for leadership qualities and values important to the area. Principals and staff from the district provided their input to the board last week.

Fourth of July trash collection changed
      In observance of the Independence Day holiday, employees of E.J. Harrison and Sons will be taking the day off on Wed., July 4. As a result, customers in Camarillo who normally have their trash and recyclables collected on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday will have them collected a day later than usual that week.

Student wins $20,000 college scholarship
      Thousand Oaks graduate Gordon Wong has been awarded a Lloyd J. Banks college scholarship, established for children of Blue Cross associates by the Blue Cross Foundation. He is the top winner of a $20,000 scholarship. Gordon graduated first in his class of 617 students and is a valedictorian of his class at Thousand Oaks High School.

Pain more common in workplace
      More employees in chronic pain are choosing to be at work instead of stay at home, a recent survey revealed. The study found chronic pain was more common in the workplace in 2006 than in 1996 (26 percent versus 19 percent), leading to a growing trend of presenteeism- a negative impact on work despite being physically present at the job.

Seabees to touch base this weekend
      Seabee Days 2007 is this weekend, Sat. and Sun., June 23 and 24, at Naval Base Ventura County in Port Hueneme. The event is open to the public and admission and parking are free. Seabee Days will celebrate its 21st year of hosting the community's firsthand look at the Navy's construction engineers.
