Camarillo boys' basketball team downs Rio Mesa, 66-43
      This past week was rivalry week between Camarillo and Rio Mesa high schools, and the Scorpions earned bragging rights for at least the short term when the ACHS boys' basketball team beat the Spartans 66-43 at home Wednesday night. The win put the Scorpions record at 98 and 20 in the Pacific View League. Rio Mesa's record fell to 6-11 and 1-1 in league play.

Scorpion boys sting Spartans
      AIRBORNE- Camarillo's Francisco Zinkewich, right, uses his head to knock the ball out of the air, leaping over Rio Mesa's Jeff Hirashima in the process. The Scorpions defeated the Spartans 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at home. Prior to Thursday's games, Camarillo's record stood at 6-5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Pacific View League. Rio Mesa was 5-9-2 and 0-2 in league play.

Camarillo Youth Basketball season off and running
      The Camarillo Youth Basketball Association opened its season last Saturday with games taking place at three middle schools, Freedom Park and the Camarillo Boys & Girls Club. Here are a few highlights from the first week of play: In the Boys 5 Division, the Wildcats beat the Hoosiers 35-29. Nick Fassel was a standout for the Hoosiers with 14 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals.
