Audubon hosts January field trips

The following January field trips are sponsored by the Ventura Audubon Society. Beginners are welcome on all field trips, and rain cancels any trip. Call the respective leader of the event for driving directions to the site.

Sat., Jan. 6, 9 a.m. to noon, Restoration Work Day in Santa Paula. Hedrick Ranch Nature Area Restoration Program. Come at 8 a.m. for birding. Leader: Sandy Hedrick, (805) 340-0478. Wear work shoes and gardening gloves.

Sun., Jan. 7, 8:30 a.m., Camino Real Park in Ventura. Leader: Raeann Koerner, (805) 644-6287.

Jan. 12 to 15, Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival. No organized trip is planned.

Sat., Jan. 13, 8 a.m., Camarillo Regional Park. Leader: Reed Smith, (805) 6520706. This county park offers many different habitats: ponds, stream, wetland and chaparral. These varied habitats offer a good variety of birds.

Sat., Jan. 27, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Beginners Walk at Lake Casitas, Ojai. Leader: Allen Bertke, (805) 640-9037. Winter birds in the lake area, freshwater marsh, oak woodland and open meadow. Bring binoculars, a bird book, hat and water. Spotting scopes are always welcome, as are veteran birders.

Fri., Feb. 9, 7:50 a.m., Point Mugu Naval Base. Leader: Mugu staff. Reservations and a $10 deposit required, except for those who sent a check for the raincanceled October trip. Preference given to society members. Call Judy at (805) 642-0842 to reserve a spot.

Send a $10 deposit check made out to Ventura Audubon to Judy Dugan, 262 Teloma Drive, Ventura, CA 93003. Deposit will not be refunded due to nonattendance. Include with the check the full name, address, phone number and citizenship of each person. Checks must be received by Jan. 23 to hold a spot.
