Area nurses enroll in home care program

Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association has begun a new training program for registered nurses who want to return to the workforce after not practicing clinical nursing for five years or more. Among local nurses recruited into the Accelerated Home Care RN Internship Program are Jean Nishimori, Jane Smith and LeeAnn Harper of Camarillo.

The 16-week program, which is taught by Agnes Padernal and a team of faculty, consists of classroom hours, clinical laboratory and supervised clinical experience. The interns manage the care of patients in the home under supervision and are taught critical thinking and teamwork as well as patient care.

Among areas covered in the course are physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, dia

betes care and social work. An interdisciplinary approach is emphasized.

Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association plans to offer the program again in the spring and fall of 2007. For selection criteria, call the Human Resources manager at (805) 642-0239.
