Teen arrested in felony DUI

Suzanne Fabac, an 18-year-old Camarillo resident, was arrested on charges of felony drunk driving after she crashed her 2002 Volkswagen Jetta into a tree at the corner of Upland and Woodcreek roads on Sun., Nov. 19, police said.

Fabac and three female passengers, all of whom were 17-year-old Camarillo residents, were injured in the 2 a.m. accident, said Sgt. Harold Hanley with the Camarillo Police Department.

According to Hanley, Fabac admitted to police that she and her three passengers had been drinking vodka and orange juice earlier that night at Charter Oak Park in Camarillo.

Hanley said the teens drove from the park to the Ralphs supermarket on Las Posas Road to buy more alcohol. He said the teens asked a man at the grocery store to buy them alcohol. The man did, and the teens then drove from Ralphs back to the Mission Oaks area of Camarillo, where they crashed their car.

Hanley said Fabac, a receptionist at a local country club, was driving eastbound on Upland Road and lost control of her car when she tried to turn right onto Woodcreek. Police said Fabac had been driving as fast as 85 miles per hour and was traveling between 50 and 70 miles per hour when she hit the tree.

Following the accident, Fabac, a receptionist at a local country club, was taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital to be treated for her injuries. One of the passengers suffered a broken arm in the wreck, according to police reports.

Hanley said the injuries were relatively minor considering Fabac's speed and the fact that she hit a tree.

"They are very lucky," Hanley said. "Trees don't move. That's my experience."

Fabac is due to appear in court later this month.
