Studio opens doors to art sale The Studio Channel Islands Art Center hosts the once-a-year Open Studios and Holiday Art Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., Dec. 2. Proceeds will benefit the eightyearold center and local artists. The sale will feature two special affordable art projects. "Inside the Box" is a large puzzle of 3-inch square boxes which have been filled with minimasterpieces or transformed imaginatively by one of the art center's artists. The boxes are on sale at a low price and half of the proceeds from this project benefit the art center. Also planned is a minigallery, hung salonstyle, with original works of art priced between $1 and $100. The public is invited. Refreshments and drinks will be served during the sale. Photographs of artwork and the art center are available upon request. During the sale, "Outside the Box," the seventh annual Juried Member's Exhibition judged by Ojai gallery owner Nathan Laramendy, will be on display as guests visit working artists' studios and examine a wide array of high-quality fine art and crafts. Handwoven garments, ceramic sculpture, glass, paintings, jewelry, photography, irreverent assemblages and original holiday cards will be for sale. Gift certificates for fiber arts classes and art center memberships will also be available. "Outside the Box" will be on display from Nov. 18 to Dec. 30. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 3 p.m. or by appointment. The art center is on the campus of California State University at Channel Islands, Building 18, Ventura Street, Camarillo. Studio Channel Islands Art Center was established in l998 as a nonprofit art center dedicated to producing highcaliber exhibits, workshops and events. The art center also provides affordable studio space to more than 20 local artists and will open a new space in downtown Oxnard in January 2007.
