Crisis Intervention Team completes academy

The Ventura County Law Enforcement Crisis Intervention Team program held its 17th CIT Academy training Oct. 23-27, at Oxnard City Hall.

At the completion of this training session, more than 500 people have been trained by the five-year program.

The CIT Academy consists of 40 hours of lectures, site visits and role-playing scenarios.

Mental health professionals and specially trained law enforcement personnel conduct the trainings. The program provides special

ized training to police officers to better prepare them to handle situations involving individuals who suffer from a mental illness or are in crisis.
