Classic ballet to open in Oxnard
Performances feature more than 90 students

"The Nutcracker" will be presented by the Ventura County Ballet Company at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 18, and at 2 p.m. Sun., Nov. 19, at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way.

Tickets are $9, $14 and $23, $15 for seniors 65 and older, and $10 for children 10 and under.

A cast of more than 90 student dancers from ballet schools throughout Ventura County will perform alongside dancers from Russia, Cuba and Hawaii.

This performance is under the artistic direction of Bretislav Weidlich and choreographed by Marina Fliagina, a former dancer with the Moscow State Theatre Kremlin Ballet

Since 1998 the company, under the direction of co-founder and executive director Kathleen Noblin, has presented "The Nutcracker" as an almost entirely student-led production.
