Moffett to receive 'Distinguished Educator Award'
'07-year award is highly regarded

Ken Moffett, interim superintendent of the Pleasant Valley School District, is one of three people who will receive a Distinguished Educator Award at a dinner and ceremony on the campus of California State University at Los Angeles on Nov. 3.

The Friends of the Charter College of Education, one of Cal State L.A.'s oldest support groups, have presented the highly regarded award each year since 1990 to honor the achievements of accomplished educational leaders in the community.

Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships and teacher development for the university's college of education.

After chalking up 20 years as superintendent of two school districts in the Los Angeles area, Moffett retired in 1996. He quickly embarked on another career. Over the last eight years, he's served as interim superintendent or assistant superintendent of seven districts, including Somis Union, Simi Valley Unified and Oak Park Unified.

Moffett was hired by the board of trustees last month after his predecessor, Tom Dase, left for a post in Northern California.
