Scooter raffle aims to raise $10,000 to fight breast cancer

The Ventura Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership in Camarillo is giving away a Schwinn scooter to raise funds and awareness to combat breast cancer.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the local dealership will be selling tickets through Sat., Oct. 28 to raffle off one pink-and-white, four-stroke gas-powered Schwinn Hope scooter.

Raffle tickets are $10, with 500 tickets available. The store is at 1326 Del Norte Road in Camarillo. For more information, call Micki Waldrop at (805) 981-9904. All ticketsale proceeds will benefit Amazon Heart. Additionally, Schwinn Motor Scooter company donates 10 percent of the purchase price of all Hope models to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. "We are excited to get involved and create a month-long event that can raise as much as $10,000 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month," said general manager Paul Pecoraro. "Amazon Heart focuses on the continued need for support to cancer survivors, and

has motorcycle-riding members, and Schwinn donates to the Susan G. Komen Foundation which has similar goals. Both Harley-Davidson and Schwinn have provided support for breast cancer survivors, so this is a combined effort among organizations that care."

The raffle follows a visit by the Amazon Heart Thunder at Ventura Harley-Davidson on Sun. Sept. 24.

The dealership opened early that morning to provide breakfast and items to help a dozen riders trek from Los Angeles to San Francisco to raise awareness and provide an adventure for breast cancer survivors. Harley-Davidson loaned brand new motorcycles to each of the participating women. Funds raised by the ride will support the peer support programs of Amazon Heart, and the Young Survival Coalition of the United States. Amazon Heart was founded in 2004 by two young breast cancer survivors to meet the needs of women living with breast cancer.
