Divers needed

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department Underwater Search and Rescue Team is seeking qualified scuba divers who are skilled and reliable and willing to volunteer their time, resources, and efforts in a commitment to their community.

Prospective candidates must attend the orientation session for the Underwater Academy on Fri., Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Sheriff's Academy at Eubanks Street and Durley Avenue on the grounds of Camarillo Airport.

The course fee is $200.

To be eligible for team membership, candidates must demonstrate mastery of advanced diving skill by successfully completing the training program. Classes will be Friday evenings and Sunday mornings from June 1 through Aug. 26, 2007.

Candidates must meet the following requirements: be 21 years old, own their personal dive equipment, be a resident of Ventura County or immediate vicinity, hold a current Open Water Certification (advanced certification is preferred) and a valid California driver's license.

They must pass all background requirements of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, demonstrate strong water skills and commitment to the program and possess first aid/CPR certification, which may be obtained concurrent with the Dive Academy.
