Says no to school bond

I attended a Pleasant Valley School Board meeting on June 29 this year to address the proposal for an additional $150 million dollar school bond to be placed on the ballot for Pleasant Valley tax payers this November. In my mind this bond was poorly planned and a waste of the $10,000 it would have taken from our school budget to put it on the ballot.

What makes this meeting most interesting in hindsight, however, is that all of the current Pleasant Valley School Board candidates were present and voiced their opinions on the issue. During public comments, candidate Stephenson was one of 13 people who spoke against the bond proposal. She pointed out that California voters would already be faced with a record breaking $46 billion in state proposals this election.

Candidate Lerner was the only person from the public who spoke in favor of the bond.

After listening to the overwhelmingly critical presentations during public comments, incumbent candidates Miller and Speakman still voted in favor of the proposed bond, while incumbent candidate Alamillo voted against it.

If the three candidates who supported the $150 million bond are elected, a bond election will be forthcoming and Camarillo citizens need to be prepared to face the tax costs of such a bond.

I will be voting for candidates Stephenson and Alamillo who will use their fiduciary responsibilities to place only well planned and feasible measures before the voters. Kathleen O'Riley Camarillo
