October is History Month in Camarillo
Course on genealogy to be first event

The city of Camarillo re- cently proclaimed October as the inaugural Camarillo History Month with the goal of educat- ing residents and visitors and celebrating the rich heritage of Pleasant Valley, Somis Town- ship and Santa Rosa Valley.

October is the month of Adolfo Camarillo's birthday, the month the city incorporated and the month the Pleasant Val- ley Historical Society was first organized. The proclamation by city officials was made at the Sept. 13 City Council meeting.

The concept of Camarillo His- tory Month was created by the city, the Camarillo Library and Friends of the Library, and the Pleasant Valley Historical Soci- ety.

During October, Camarillo will celebrate its unique heritage throughout the Pleasant Valley area. Participating organizations will be identified by bright red bou- gainvillea posters and will have available schedules of activities.

On Sun., Oct. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m., the Ventura County Ge- nealogical Society will offer a free "How to Begin Research- ing Your Family" presentation at Pleasant Valley Historical Society Museum, 720 Las Posas Road, Camarillo.

For reservations or more in- formation on the monthlong schedule of events, call the Pleasant Valley Historical So- ciety at (805) 482-3660.
