Jody Maroni opens shop in outlet mall

Jody Maroni, the Venice Beach Sausage King, has opened a new store at the Camarillo Pre- mium Outlet Mall food court, serving up his award-winning family recipe sausage sand- wiches to hungry shoppers.

The 600-square-foot Jody Maroni features a full slate of gourmet sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, charbroiled hamburg- ers and breakfast burritos with Andouille sausage.

"Sausage is life and suste- nance," said Maroni. "I think the people shopping here recognize a premium product and quality is something that I live by."

Maroni is considered a pio- neer in low fat, gourmet sausage. The Jody Maroni's Sausage Kingdom menu includes such flavors as Yucatan chicken and turkey with cilantro, tequila chicken with jalapenos, smoked chicken apple, smoked chicken Andouille, hot Italian, sweet Ital- ian, Louisiana hot links,

bratwurst and the Cajun dog, a chicken hot dog with a smoky, spicy flavor.

Many of Maroni's sausages are made without any nitrates or preservatives and are considered lower in fat than traditional sau- sage.

The gourmet sausage sand- wich is grilled and served on a fresh-baked onion roll with on- ions and peppers. The fries are natural skin-on, and the hot dogs all beef. The third-pound burgers are charbroiled and the lemonade fresh-squeezed.

Zagat's Restaurant Guide has named Jody Maroni's one of the top five hot dog stands in the U.S. in its America's Best Meal Deals. Maroni sausage sandwiches are also sold at Staples Center and Smart & Final. In 1998, Rizzoli published "Jody Maroni's Sau- sage Kingdom Cookbook."
