Five arrested in Camarillo pot find

Five Camarillo residents,

anging in age from 16 to 51, were arrested last week after police

ound 29 marijuana plants grow

ng inside a residence in the 200 block of Calle Higuera in Cama

illo, officials said.

According to police, George Akrey, 51, was arrested Aug. 17 on a felony charge of maintain

ng a residence where controlled

ubstances are being used and possessed. He posted $10,000 bail

he following day.

His wife, Susan Akrey, 45, Erin Cayley, 18, and a 16-yearold girl were arrested and released

he same day on the misdemeanor charge of being under the influ

ence of methamphetamine, a controlled substance. Sgt. Bob Thomas said Cayley is on probation for felony possession of the drug.

Rand Akrey, 21, also was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for possession of a stolen HarleyDavidson motorcycle, police said. He posted $10,000 bail the next day.

George Akrey has a medicinal card that allows him to legally grow up to 12 marijuana plants. Although Thomas said the number of plants Akrey allegedly had was "an excessive amount," Thomas decided at the scene not to charge Akrey but instead present it to the district attorney first.

Akrey has a prior felony conviction for cultivating marijuana and could still face that same charge with this incident. The decision rests with the district attorney's office, Thomas said.

Police also found a "small amount" of methamphetamine in the house although there was no indication that the substance was produced there, Thomas said.

Rand and George Akrey are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 24.

The others are expected to make a court appearance within the next 30 days.
