Artists to celebrate the works of two masters The birthdays of Mozart and Rembrandt will be commemorated this weekend with special events at Studio Channel Islands Art Center, on the campus of Cal State Channel Islands, Building 18 on Ventura Street in Camarillo. At 3 p.m. Sat., Aug. 26 the center will host a classical concert featuring Mozart's flute quartets, trios and duos, performed by The Women of Note and Friends. Mariana FrancoSommer plays flute with Sharon Cooper on violin, Tom Turner on viola and Janet Bergamo playing the violoncello. Members of the quartet have performed throughout California and Europe in orchestras, chamber ensembles and recitals including recordings for TV sound tracks and movies. A donation of $10 for members and students and $15 for the general public is suggested. At 4 p.m. Sun., Aug. 27 a slide show presentation on Rembrandt will be presented by Gerd Koch, who will also discuss Mozart. The event will have a party atmosphere, according to organizers. Koch will appear in period costume, Dutch beer will be served, and there will be decorations and door prizes. This event is free but donations will be accepted. Parking is free both days.
