Welcome letter from the sports editor Ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Stephen Dorman and I'm the sports editor for The Acorn Newspapers. I'm 26 years old, have an uncanny knack for getting bad haircuts, and am a huge sports fan-professional, college, high school, whatever. Because many of you are probably new to our publication, it only seems appropriate to supply a short explanation of what the Camarillo Acorn's sports department is all about. Maximizing sports coverage within the community is a top priority. High school sports are our primary beat, and you can bet Pacific View League foes Camarillo and Rio Mesa will receive plenty of ink in the near future. For the Camarillo Acorn to truly become a community newspaper, however, we're going to need your assistance. You see, when your son or daughter's youth team excels in a tournament or wins a championship, that's news. Or when the fellas from the local beer league capture that elusive softball title they've been chasing for the past 27 years, that's news, too. Local dart clubs are news. As are bowling leagues, dance teams, standout surfers, super skateboarders and dodgeball associations. Bottom line, if it's sports and it's local, we want to hear about it and you want to read about it. Camarillo, by helping supply content to the sports section, you can make this your newspaper and a publication that truly reflects this community. From this day forth, my ears are open to any and all local story suggestions. Simply email sdorman@theacorn.com or call our office at (818) 706-0266 and ask for the sports desk. Thank you all very much for having us. Remember to e-mail. |
